Please Don’t Give Up. Here Are Some Reasons to Keep Moving Forward

This year has felt heavy to me, and I feel guilty saying that because there have been many blessings this year, but I have struggled to stay motivated and positive in more than one area. Have you felt that way or has this been a successful year for you when you were highly motivated to achieve great things? I am so happy for you if you answered yes, but if you had a few low spots like I did, I would like to offer a few reasons why I hope you never give up on the things you love to do.

  • Success can take time. When it feels like nothing is changing you might be surprised to know how much you are learning and growing.
  • Giving up means you are closing doors that you might have been able to burst through with one more shove.
  • Instead of quitting, adjust. Do what you have been doing but do it differently. Experiment to find out what will bring you success. Running has been my therapy my whole life, but as I’m reaching the end of my sixth decade, my knees have started to be cranky. I cannot run every day or run ten miles straight. I was frustrated several months ago and I stopped running. Last week I realized there was another solution. Instead of stopping, I would adjust my routine. I run 2 miles and walk the rest then I walk the next day and then run. So far it is working great.
  • Not giving up builds resilience and mental strength.
  • Quitting never feels good but pushing forward makes you feel powerful.
  • Even though you might not realize it, there are people who count on you to be you.
  • You never know when a blessing or even a failure could change everything for the better.
  • Your words, your kindness, and your actions could save someone’s life.
  • If your journey didn’t have some walls to break down, you wouldn’t learn some valuable lessons.
  • What if you can be the change maker in someone’s life?

There are so many reasons to keep pushing forward even when you are tired and you feel like life has left you battered and bruised. Something wonderful might be about to happen.

How Consistency Can Change Your Life

We all make plans to change certain things in our lives. We tell family and friends how excited we are about the new changes we are going to make, and we begin working towards our new goal with passion. unfortunately, the passion only lasts about a week and then we fall back into old habits only to try to restart about a month later and then again, we give up. If we all did more things in our lives consistently, we could turn our lives around dramatically. Here are some ways consistency can help you.

Be consistent exercising and you can change your body.

Be consistent reading and you will improve your mind.

Be consistently positive and you will bring good things into your life.

Eat well consistently and you will have more energy and better health.

Sleep well consistently and you can improve your productivity and your focus.

Practice excellence consistently instead of settling for average and you will be proud.

Serving others consistently will improve your self-esteem.

Finding good in others consistently will improve your character.

Trying new things consistently will stimulate your brain.

Budgeting your money consistently will ensure you are financially healthy.

Learning on the job consistently makes you a better employee.

Spending time consistently doing the things you love will make you happier.

Spending time with friends consistently will make you more secure.

Laughing consistently will keep your mood light.

Staying abreast of current events consistently will keep you knowledgeable.

Smiling consistently can improve the moods of those around you.

Listening consistently will help more than giving advice.

Being present consistently instead of thinking about the past or future will open your eyes.

Taking a few minutes to reflect consistently can clear your mind.

Follow your instincts consistently and make good decisions.

Treating others with love consistently can enrich your life.

Doing your best consistently is a great way to grow.

I hope these ideas give you some action steps to improve.

5 Ways to Be Badass

Keep rising back up

A badass might be knocked down, but she always rises back up. She will not accept defeat, and she stays positive with her eyes on the goal.

Believe you will win

A badass has the spirit of a champion. She believes she will accomplish great things, and if she falls short, she learns from the experience, and comes back stronger. She is patient as she works toward what she knows she can achieve.

Encourage others

A badass knows there is enough happiness and success for everyone, and she does her best to encourage others to achieve dreams, and she pushes competitors to be better.

Sees excuses as dream killers

A badass knows that excuses are really only fear of failure, and if you don’t step out of your comfort zone, you will miss out on some amazing experiences.

Do hard things

You have to step out of your comfort zone to be badass. A badass wants to keep improving and growing and that means doing things that are difficult.

Making Movement Fun

Movement is medicine. We were not meant to sit on a couch staring at a screen for hours. Think about how you feel after you have been doing that for awhile. You stand up and you feel creaky because you haven’t moved. Movement is one of the keys to being healthy, and it can be fun. The first thing you have to do though is stop finding excuses, and see the benefits instead. Here are a few ways to sneak movement into your daily life without having to dread it.

Dance. I know if you are like me you are thinking this isn’t possible because you have no rhythm and you also have no desire to look foolish, but you can dance in your own kitchen where no one will judge your dance moves. Get your friends and family involved and watch everyone’s moods improve as the room fills with laughter.

Before my grandson could walk I would turn on Rick Astley and Never Gonna Give You Up and swirl him around the kitchen in my arms. I loved hearing him laugh as we zigzagged through the house.

If you do have some dance skills, why not sign up for a dance class, or try a Zumba class at the gym?

Go for a walk. You don’t have to keep up a blistering pace to reap the benefits of a walk. Ask some friends or neighbors to join you since the time goes by faster when you are talking.

Garden. I was surprised when two neighbors told me they wished they had a garden. One said she was afraid nothing would grow. I told her if I could grow a garden, so could she. I plant a seed and if it doesn’t grow, I plant some more. Eventually, it works out. Why does fear of failure hold us back from beautiful things so often? The other neighbor said she did not have room. I introduced her to container gardening which is just planting in pots. As long as you have soil, seeds, and water, you can grow things.

Gardening is more strenuous than you would think. you have to tend to it by pulling weeds, eliminating certain bugs, and trimming here and there. It is also a great stress reliever.

Play like a child. What did you like to do when you were a child? I loved to swim and ride my bike. I don’t do either competitively, I splash around in the pool and cruise around the neighborhood on my bike. Did you enjoy baseball? Invite some people over to play catch.

Catch lightening bugs with the neighborhood kids. This is one of my memories from childhood. We would run after the bugs and put them in mason jars, and watch them light up. we let them go and chased after another set.

Play with your dog. If you have a Border Collie like I do, this isn’t a choice, It is a given, but throwing a ball or frisbie and just playing is still movement.

I hope these ideas start you on your way to being more active. Have fun!

How to Win

Would you be surprised to know that your success is completely up to you? We often blame a lack of what we want on outside sources, but a lack of success is because we are often getting in our way, but if we follow a few strategies we can make some positive changes in our lives. Here are a few things you can do to move towards your happiness.

Change your thinking

Do you find yourself finding all the reasons why you haven’t achieved all your goals instead of believing it is possible? Do you use excuses like I don’t have the money, intelligence, contacts, or know how to make it work? Instead of finding the reasons why your dreams will never work start seeing the possibilities. Imagine having the life you have always imagined. What does that life look like? What would you have to change to make it happen? Make a plan and start kicking through some barriers.

I always tell my students that their thinking will change everything. If you think you can, you will if you think you will fail you will. A journalist was interviewing the famous French football player Killian Mbappe. He asked him if he ever worried about making a shot. Killian said he couldn’t allow himself to think that way. He always approached the goal telling himself he would make it.

Every time you imagine the barriers to your dreams, you change your thoughts to imagine yourself achieving your goals.

Control the voices

The voices in your head are even more dangerous than the other voices you hear because we are our own worst critics. Do you listen to yourself expecting to fail? Do you call yourself an idiot or say things like, “I don’t know why I thought I could do that, or I always mess things up.” Start to talk to yourself like you talk to your best friend. Be kind and supportive of yourself. When the negative voices sneak in kick them to the curb and replace them with positive statements.

Handle haters

Haters are pot stirrers. They want to create drama and tear you down. Don’t even engage with them. As a writer, I open myself to criticism every time I publish a piece. Negativity used to bother me until I wrote an article about Christmas lights and the comments ranged from racial slurs to political rants. I let my daughters read them and they both looked at me and said, “This was about Christmas lights?” After that, I didn’t pay too much attention to negative comments.

Believe

Since I fell in love with ultra-marathons I have been trying to reach the 50-mile mark. I asked my ultra mentor for advice. He gave me three pages of information to use at my next race and the end he said, “The most important piece of advice I can give you is to believe you can do it.” I know he is right because the mental strength for a challenge is even more important than preparing yourself physically. Use visualization to see yourself achieving your goals. Athletes use this technique all the time. Convince yourself that you are capable and see what happens.

Know you are worthy

Have you ever thought that you might not deserve something better? That is balderdash! You deserve happiness through achieving your goals. If you need help believing it make a list of your accomplishments and strengths.

Ask questions

Find an expert that can help you with your goals. Ask all the questions you can think of and watch the experts at work. See how they do well at what you want to achieve.

Keep growing and learning

Never feel as if you have arrived. There is always something new to learn and improvements you can make.

Use the energy around you

Everything has energy. Use nature’s energy to restore yours by feeling calm and peaceful. Always take the time to recharge.
